Jodi Arias guilty – now, can we just hang this slut?

(CNN) — After months of twists and turns in a dramatic trial rife with sex, lies and digital images, an Arizona jury Wednesday found Jodi Arias guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander.

Jurors will return to court Thursday for the aggravation phase of the trial — an important step in the next key decision they face: determining whether Arias lives or dies.

“Now the odds, I think, shift somewhat in her favor, because it’s a very different thing to sentence someone to die than to convict them,” CNN senior legal analyst Jeffery Toobin said.

In a television interview minutes after the verdict was announced, Arias said she’d prefer a death sentence.

“I said years ago that I’d rather get death than life, and that still is true today,” she told Phoenix television station KSAZ. “I believe death is the ultimate freedom, so I’d rather just have my freedom as soon as I can get it.”

The comments prompted authorities to place Arias on suicide watch in an Arizona jail, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

“Until she is released from suicide protocol by Sheriff’s officials no further media interviews of inmate Arias will be permitted,” the office said in a statement.

Bombs in Boston

By JIMMY GOLEN BOSTON — Two bombs exploded near the finish of the Boston Marathon on Monday, killing two people, injuring 23 others and sending authorities rushing to aid wounded spectators, race organizers and police said.

One runner, a Rhode Island state trooper, said he saw at least two dozen people with very serious injuries, including missing limbs.

About two hours after the winners crossed the line, there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the finish line. Another explosion could be heard a few seconds later.

The Boston Marathon said that bombs caused the two explosions and that organizers were working with authorities to determine what happened. The Boston Police Department said two people were killed and 23 others injured.

Competitors and race volunteers were crying as they fled the chaos. Bloody spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners. Authorities went onto the course to carry away the injured while stragglers in the 26.2-mile race were rerouted away from the smoking site.

Nice blog #15 – heroism

NEWTOWN, Connecticut (Reuters) – Elementary school library clerk Mary Ann Jacob heard gunshots and shouted “Lockdown!” to a class of fourth graders. Then she discovered the classroom door wouldn’t lock.

Quickly, quietly she and other library staff got the 18 children down on the floor and crawled with them to a classroom storage closet. Hiding from the gunman who killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday, they barricaded themselves inside by shoving a file cabinet against the door.

“We settled them down with paper and crayons,” Jacob told reporters on Saturday.

The gunfire suddenly ended and police came pounding at the door. But the library staff refused to open it until they slipped a badge under the door, Jacob said.

In the aftermath of the massacre, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy on Friday said “evil” had descended upon the small community of Newtown. But emerging a day after the carnage were tales of heroism by school staff members, including the six who died.

There was first-grade teacher Vicki Leigh Soto, 27, who police said “put herself between the kids and the gunman’s bullets” and whose body was found huddled with the students in a classroom closet, according to The Wall Street Journal.

And there were selfless survivors like first-grade teacher Kaitlin Roig. She told ABC News she scrambled her class into a cramped bathroom, locked the door and “told the kids I love them” in case those were the last words they ever heard.

A school custodian reportedly raced through the hallways echoing with gunfire to check that classroom doors were locked from the inside, the Newtown Bee newspaper said.

On Friday morning fourth graders were in Jacob’s library classroom when the intercom sputtered to life with what sounded like a struggle in the school office.

Teen killed Jessica Ridgeway – bring back the lynch mob!

Full story here

WESTMINSTER, Colo. –  A Colorado teenager  has confessed in the abduction and killing of a 10-year-old girl and in a  separate attack on a runner, prosecutors said Thursday.

The suspect, 17-year-old Austin Reed Sigg, made his first court appearance  Thursday in the death of Jessica Ridgeway and an assault on a 22-year-old female  runner in May.

Authorities said Thursday they have “overwhelming” DNA evidence against  Sigg.

Sigg lived about a mile from Jessica Ridgeway, who disappeared Oct. 5.

He kept head bowed for much of the time, talking with his attorney but  otherwise saying little.

He made eye contact at one point with relatives of Ridgeway, who were in the  courtroom wearing purple ribbons in the girl’s memory.

District Attorney Scott Storey said the law prevents prosecutors from seeking the death penalty because Sigg is a juvenile, even though he is being prosecuted as an adult.

rrest papers describe Sigg as “cooperative”

Police in the Denver suburb of Westminster said they took Sigg into custody  Tuesday night after receiving a phone call, apparently from his mother, that led  them to Sigg.

Reached by phone Wednesday, Sigg’s mother told The Associated Press he turned  himself in.

“I made the phone call, and he turned himself in. That’s all I have to say,”  said Mindy Sigg, before she broke down in tears and hung up.

Authorities said Sigg also will face charges in the May 28 attempted  kidnapping of the 22-year-old runner at the Ketner Lake Open Space. Police have  said the two crimes are connected, but they haven’t elaborated.

In the May case, a woman fought off a stranger who grabbed her from behind  and put a rag that smelled of chemicals over her mouth, authorities said. Police  haven’t determined if the substance on the rag was meant to subdue the  woman.

Authorities have released few details about their investigation, and court  documents have been sealed. A police custody report said Sigg was cooperative  when he was arrested and waived his rights.

My top ten favorite horror movies of all-time

Since Halloween is this month, I decided to finally post something about it. Horror movies these days play such a major role in Halloween culture. Turn on your TV and you can find some type of horror movie marathon. Below are my top ten horror movies of all-time. Nothing on my list (besides one flick) came before 1970. So for all you hardcore horror movie nerds, take it easy on me. You will also be shocked by the lack of werewolf and vampire movies – I hate them all.

10 – The Leprechaun

Not scary at all. The movie however, is fun. They took a character these days best known for drunkenness and made this little bastard mean as hell. Don’t forget how sexy Jennifer Aniston looks in those daisy dukes.

9 – The Night of the Living Dead (original)

This movie influenced the way we see zombies today. Instead of brain-dead boring creatures, George Romero transformed them into brain-dead creatures with a craving for human flesh.

8 – The Ring

I’m always ten years behind in seeing things. I have yet to see the Japanese’s original “Ringo”. The Ring was cool. This movie was scary, tons of suspense and very unpredictable. A few days after seeing the Ring, I can recall walking through a long hallway at work one night and passing a TV that was nothing but static – I won’t lie; my heartbeat probably beated 10% more.

7 – Christine

I love how Stephen King can take something so easy and make it scary. We all know an “Artie”, the man that loves his car. Lucky for us, their cars aren’t jealous bitches that run over everybody they dislike.

6 – Dawn of the Dead (original)

How can you make the Night of the Living Dead better? Simple, add 80% more zombies, 100% more blood and instead of the humans kicking ass, have the zombies defeating mankind.

5 – The Texas Chainsaw Mascare  (original)

I love how the movie was shot like a documentary. In horror movies today, that’s very common. Back then that was original and still a very new style in movie making. The movie is crazy, very violent and nasty. As a kid I was terrified, very terrified of this movie.

4 – Gremlins

A father buys his son a cute little “pet”. He’s so nice and cuddly. Everyone loves him. Then he multiplies into more cute little creatures. These however, aren’t so sweet. They become evil creatures that attack humans with no remorse. This made kids across the world never want a puppy or kitten again in fear it would transfer into something mean.

3 – Nightmare on Elm Street

We all sleep. So what happens when a crazed serial killer haunts your dreams? Simple, you don’t wake up. Instead, you die. This movie caused children like me, to lose hours of sleep. Too bad the mass majority of sequels sucked when compared to this classic.

2 – Maximum Overdrive

The movie was a complete box office flop. Even Stephen King made the joke that the movie was so bad that at least he is credited for making a “cult classic”. Arcade games, lawnmowers and semi-trucks all kill people in this movie. Best scene is when a steamroller runs over a kid. That is beyond awesome. As video game and movie critic James Rolfe pointed out, the all AC/DC soundtrack makes the shitty movie great.

1  – Dawn of the Dead (remake)

Horror movie nerds across the globe will roll their eyes at this pick. I love this movie. The zombies are fast and meaner than ever. The first attack scene when that kid girl zombie rips a chunk out of his neck is classic. I even love how it ends. There is no sign of a happy ending. Instead, we see the remaining survivors running out of food, fuel and ammo. They are then attacked by a herd of zombies. When you watch a horror movie, who gives a shit about a happy ending? I sure don’t!

RIP Michael Carr

Michael Carr was killed last week. You can read the story here.

To most Mike was just another person killed in a senseless act. I knew him personally years ago and can say he was one hell of a person. He was close friends with my family, worked with one of my older sisters and even dated another one. I don’t know much about his later life. I do know that my two sisters that knew him thought highly of him as did my mom. As a kid, I can remember him helping my mom carry groceries over to our house and then sitting around and playing video games with me or looking at my newest baseball card(s). He wasn’t supposed to do that, but he did, many times getting in trouble. Mike will surely be missed.
