More of my birthday presents
Before I ran Louisville Strange Brew, some friends and me ran a local TV show known as “Strange Brew” some 14 years ago. Our show nor this site is named after this movie. This is a gag gift. Our show’s name was my idea. I named it after a Cream greatest hits album called “Strange Brew”. BTW, this is a very underrated cult movie from the 1980′s.
Shannon and Keith got me a bottle of Bushmills’ 10 year. John got me a bottle of Jameson. Three bottles of Irish whiskey for Christmas. And yes, I am currently drinking the 10 year as we speak.
My niece Michaela and my nephew Matthew custom-made this for me. This is probably my favorite gift of all.
Is Charlie Strong leaving for Tennessee?
Fresh off the announcement that it has escaped the Big East and will head to the ACC, Louisville certainly has a lot of recruiting momentum. Playing in a major conference is an important tool in recruiting, especially when going up against schools like Ohio State, as the Cardinals are for hometown receiver James Quick.
But the news that Louisville head coach Charlie Strong, who rebuilt the program after the damage done by Steve Kragthorpe, interviewed with Tennessee over the weekend could put a damper on things.
’13 WR James Quick whipped some of the recruiting message boards out there into a frenzy when he said he “had a few times where I thought it was the place for me” when speaking about his visit to Ohio State for The Game. Quick is rated as a 4-star prospect, and mentioned that he will most likely take an official visit to Louisville in December before taking his official visit to Oregon sometime in January. It’s long been a three-legged race for the spectacular receiver from Kentucky, but the race is nearing its finish. The Buckeyes stand a good chance and would have no problem adding him to the 2013 class.
After the visit, however, he stated that Louisville still leads. He has yet to react to the news of Strong’s interview.
Quick who was recently named the player of the year in Kentucky, spent his weekend playing through an injury and helping his team to victory in the playoffs.
Good luck to Joker Phillips
As most already know, the Kentucky Wildcats’ Head Coach, Joker Phillips has been fired.
Earlier this year, I wrote an article calling for the firing of Joker Phillips. I stand 100% behind my comments. Joker needed to go. With that said, UK’s Athletic Director once again showed his lack of class. He fired Joker with only two remaining games. Some may back his decision, but I totally disagree. Let Joker finish out the season with his players, mainly the seniors – win or lose.
It’s easy for us “armchair Quarterbacks” to bitch and moan about Joker. Joker, unlike 99% of us, played college football. For those that don’t know, Joker played for UK. If anyone cares about Kentucky Football, it’s Joker. To send him packing with two remaining games left is a slap to his face. I could care less if UK was winless. You just can’t do a man that way.
Joker did not get the job done. No matter what, he was out the door by the end of the season. Being a good person doesn’t make one a good coach. I am sad to see UK fans taking a page out of the U of L fanbase’s playbook. Only fake fans show up during the good and not the bad. That is a slap in the UK players’ faces. Shame on you. Support the players no matter what! Joker, good luck to you on whatever you do in the near future. You are a class act.
Joker Phillips – sorry, you suck as a coach
I actually like Joker. He is a Kentucky native. He played for UK. Joker seems like a decent person. He plays by the rules, has class and loves UK more than I and most fans will ever understand. All of those good traits don’t make you a good coach. Joker is way out of his league in the SEC.
Losing to U of L was not his downfall. Most UK fans will disagree. That’s just because they hate U of L. Give U of L credit, they have a decent coach and a QB that money was well spent on. Fans like myself, understand that losing to U of L is not the end of the season. When you then lose to WKU, the season is all but over. UK stands no chance in the SEC – None what so ever.
Most UK fans know that going 10-2 or better in the SEC was not going to happen anytime soon. We just enjoyed competing. Rich Brooks gave us that. UK won three in a row under Brooks against U of L (his players won one more after he left), beat National Champions LSU and other great teams such as Georgia. UK also won Bowl Games under Brooks. Joker has turned UK into the third (maybe worse) best team in the state of Kentucky.
Joker has turned UK back into the teams they were under Bill Curry. UK went from a decent team to the door mat of the SEC. Thank God that Bama and LSU aren’t on the schedule this year. Bama would beat UK 48-3. And those 3 would come against Bama’s 3rd string defense. Watching UK football this season is like watching Kathy Bates playing with herself. Other words; not worth watching.
I will say this in UK’s defense. UK fans this year are pissing me off. They are boycotting games. That my friends, is the U of L approach. Attend games when they win; don’t attend games when they lose. That really sickens me. The players on the UK football team deserve better. Fans should always support the team. In the past, UK fans have. This year should be no different. Joker sucks as coach but don’t take that out on the players. Go out and support the team – rather they win or lose.
Who knows where Joker will be come this time next year. I am 99.9999% sure he won’t be the head coach at UK. Being a good person doesn’t make you a good coach. Look at Bobby Knight. He was the biggest crybaby and loser of all time. When it came to coaching however, he was one of the best. Knight never got paid to be a nice guy. He got paid to win. The same goes for Joker.
Funny things U of L fans said to me after the football game
“Common sense. Most UK fans didn’t even go to UK. Dumbass.”
Me – No shit. Thanks for the math lesson. Since there are 4 million people in Kentucky, I would hope not. That would be simply amazing that all 4 million people living in Kentucky went there.
“UK is only good in basketball. UofL is better in more sports.”

“U of L fans are loyal. We follow every sport.”
Me – Really? When Steve Kragthorpe was coach, you could only pack 23,000 into a 47,00 stadium. Stop with the lying!
“UK is scared to leave the Big East because of how great our conference is.”
Me – Is this a serious comment? In the last five-year span or 25 year-span, the SEC has more basketball National Championships than the Big East. UK has won 3 to U of L’s 0. I rest my case.

Females, dress like tramps. Nothing shows “school spirit” more than looking like a $5 whore.
Dress your baby up. Nothing says “child abuse” more than this!
Buy plenty of beer. Nothing says “diehard fan” more than being drunk and not recalling half of the game,
Dress your poor dog (or cat) up in your favorite team’s uniform. Of course they are fans too when they aren’t busy licking their own nut-sack.
