(James Nintendo Nerd, aka Angry Video Game Nerd, aka AVGN)
A few weeks ago I was surfing YouTube for old Sega Master System commercials. While doing so I came across a user named “JamesNintendoNerd”. He had a video playing “Rocky”, an old game based on the movie of the same name. I watched the video and laughed my ass off. I forgot how bad games back then were when compared to the games of today. The music was lame and simple. Normally the music was 3-4 beats that kept repeating over and over. The graphics were 10-bit at best (Sega was a little ahead of the NES).
After watching the video I discovered that this user runs sites and has hundreds of videos on YouTube. Most of them are spent reviewing what he calls “the worst games ever”. He is also known by “Angry Video Game Nerd” aka AVGN. What makes him cool is the fact I myself, like most men my age, owned a lot of these shitty games. Not only are his videos funny, but they bring back childhood memories.

AVGN is known for his cussing. It’s common to hear him yell “horse shit” or “fuck” while playing one of these games. He also loves to reference shit a lot. Not sure why, but he does. What amuses me the most is the fact he sort of looks like he could be my brother when he is in the “nerd” character. Kind of makes me realize how much of a damn nerd I truly am. Not only does he review games, but he reviews video game accessories such as the Power Glove, U-Force and Light Gun to name a few.
A few of the games I’ve seen him play I owned. One of the worst was “Hydlide”. It is a total piece of shit. I can’t picture how the people involved agreed to actually release this game. Maybe they purposely wanted to disappoint children across the world. Other games he’s played that I owned or can recall are Dick Tracey, Castlevania II and Fester’s Quest. While I agree that Castlevania II sucked when compared to part I and III, I actually loved Dick Tracey and was sort of a fan of Fester’s Quest. However, I do recall how hard both of these damn games were. Watching him play these made me feel like I was eight all over again.
What has shocked me was how many people hate this man. I’ve found YouTube videos of people who hate him. He simply reviews bad games. Read what I said above. I actually liked two of the games he said that sucked. Big deal, he has his opinion, I have mine and you have yours. Why hate the man for simply saying what he feels. He does so in a humorous manner. People that take him seriously are complete losers, much like those who take this site seriously. It’s satire, not factual.

I’ve spent hours watching him and even own a few of his dvds. He’s one of YouTube’s best.
I didn’t find him to be funny. Real gamers don’t act this way.
Bullshit.
He may just be acting, but if you’ve ever played a bad/hard game, then you’ll know just how realistic his character is.
